Wow... Kudos... I bought the Yamaha SW1000XG and could never figure out how to make that thing work properly (XGedit and all). I perty much gave up on midi and have my DTX wired into Protools.... I use the bass drum (panned left), snare (panned right), and toms (stereo), then have my acoustic cymbals (hat, ride, crashes) where they should be, all mic'd. That way I've been able to keep control of the bass and snare for mixing on seperate tracks, and have adjusted the toms' volume accordingly. The cymbals all go into sperate tracks just like traditional recording. I could never get a realistic cymbal sound outta the DTX... but the drums themselves are more than adequate. The pads are quiet enough that I don't get too much bleed into the cymbal mics.... so all in all this combionation is working great for recording.
