I now think there may be something wrong with mine too. I also have to keep the pedal mashed down pretty hard to keep the hat closed. Sometimes when I want to get the chic sound I will get a foot splash sound instead. I haven't been too concerned about it yet because I am a new drummer just learning and I have very bad technique at this point so I was thinking this was a problem with me. When I go for my lessons I play on an acoustic kit and my teacher hasn't noticed any problems with my hi-hat technique yet. I am interested to know how many people are having problems with the RHH130 hi-hat. I may have to put in a complaint with yamaha myself.
