Hello,

I'm new to this group and I'm thinking about getting the Yamaha
DTXpress, it seems to be the best bang for the dollar out there and I
am bit of a Yamaha fan. I currently own a 5-piece Yamaha Stage
Custom accoustic jazz kit, a Yamaha dual-chain double bass pedal, and
a Yamaha sound system for my computer, and I must say, I'm very
please with all my Yamaha products and that is why I would like to go
with the DTX. The questions I have are as follows:

1. Will my double bass pedal work on the kick pad? It looks rather
small in the pictures I've seen, but is there any way to rig it up to
accomodate a double pedal?

Too small...There is a good Pintech solution that will plug in the DTXpress
2. Is there an easy way ( a secure way I should say) to rig up the
pads inside my stage custom kit? As in, removing the heads and
fastening the pads inside the shells.
Not really...if you want to trigger your acoustic kit into the DTXpress, it is very easy. You can use real heads or mesh heads for greater control of volume levels.
I highly recommend joining electronicdrums.com for instructions, parts, and member feedback. I've done my snare and kick so far and they work well. Cost me less than $20 and about an hour of assembly.
3. Is there any problem with the kick/hihat pedals sliding on the
floor?
Use a drum mat/carpet and the adjustable spurs. No slipping on my kit.
4. Does anyone know of a page devoted to making pads? A friend of
mine said you can make them out of practise pads and a few cheap
electronics from Radio Shack. I would also like to know where to
find the DTXpression page that I have heard about (where to download
custom kits and such).
http://www.onelist.com/community/DTXpress get the tips and tricks section... very useful
http://www.electronicdrums.com build your own ! I use the Yamaha pads for home practice and the triggered acoustic kit with DTXpress brain for live.
5. Most importantly, what is the cheapest price you people have
found/paid for a DTX? Is there any places online I could find a used
DTX in good condition? What do you people think about buying a used
DTX?
Used is fine. Check out the threads on the clamps, the pads themselves, particularly the cymbal pads. Heavy hitters can crack or damage them.
Sorry about being so longwinded, but this is a big investment for me,
so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Welcome and good luck.
