Jerry,

I'm not familiar with the practice pads, but the DTXtreme pads have a
far more realistic and gentle feel than the usual gum rubber, whether
Yamaha's, Roland's, or Pintech's. As a long-time mesh user, I was
taken completely by surprise when I first tried them, reporting on
this board that they give meshes a run for their money so far as touch
is concerned. Meshes aren't created equal either. Though I still rate
the old Hart two-ply woven heads (whch are still on my pads) as hard
to beat (unfortunate pun; in that sense, really easy to beat), I may
well prefer the higher-end Yamaha TPs to Roland or Pintech mesh heads,
which can be too bouncy.
