[DTXpress] DTXpress Hi-hat Pedal/Controller Questions

I have an original DTXpress kit and have been using it with a Roland TD-3 module. The Yamaha hi-hat pedal doesn\u2019t do anything when connected to the TD-3. Should the hi-hat pedal work with other modules or are they brand/model exclusive?

Also, with a Yamaha module, should the hi-hat pedal from the original DTXpress give you different settings depending on its position? (Open, Closed, Half Open, Foot Splashes) or is that only with newer Yamaha pedals? (HH 65, etc)
