On my dtxpress III, I added two additional cymbals (for a total of 2 crashes, a ride, and a china) plus an extra tom pad for a total of 4 toms by using stereo cables - its in the book. You then simply need to assign the channels to the correct drum voice. This made the dtxpress III exactly like my normal gigging kit - kick, snare, 4 toms, 2 crashes, a ride, and a china.
