Hi Stu, The main reason I set it up this way is because I can! Being I have 3 modules (DTXpress I & III and a DM Pro) "he,he" :) I wanted to be able to make good use of my modules & excess pads...Within a single song I can choose which Hi-Hat sound I want to access (hit one of the Hi-Hat pads) through the corresponding module, as individual sounds. However when I tap the Hi-Hat pedal BOTH modules sound their Hi-Hats, this also go's for a splash. I didn't do it specifically so I can 'combine' the sounds, but as a multiple of choice at will, so to speak. If however YOU are particularly interested in COMBINING Hi-Hat sounds by the use of multiple modules, I suppose you can simply split your Hi-Hat pad out with a 'Y' cable to each module...Though by doing this, you won't be able to use either/or sound as I have mine set up. There are endless possibilities with excess trigger pads, multiple modules, mono and/or stereo 'Y' splitters...Of course if you go hog- wild as I have based on ecess DTXpress upgrades/additions, you may want to expand your drum rack...That's what I did! Lovin' it too! I don't see why you cannot do BOTH of the configurations mentioned above if you have the extra equiptment, INCLUDING the use of toggle switches that can be switched for whichever operation you're wanting at any given time. Hope that helps, feel free to ask if there's anything else.
