Re: Drum Sticks

2006-03-02 by Chris . B.

Hi Peter,
Describing your music style helps a lot when deciding what
stix to use. Sounds like you would best off with a 7A stick size,
you could probably get away with a 5A as well, though that's
starting to get a bit on the heavy side of things.

Some folks may disagree, but I don't think it matters what type of
tip you use on e drums, however, I swear by nylon tips for all
rock/pop drumming applications.

When I was 16, (a very long time ago!) I was playing
hard rock / punk and used 5B's but as I've settled down and my style
has matured, I find lighter stix are much easier to use and am able
to still hit heavy without snapping them prematurely.

I'm a bit concerned to hear that your stix
only "lasted a little while", as you shouldn't be hitting e drums
that hard that you start breaking them!

Anyway, at the end of the day it comes down to personal choice.
I can only recommend light stix in your case.

I use: Pro Mark and Vic Firth 7A's, 5A's and American Jazz -
all are nylon tips.
These stix are made of Hickory and if looked after, will
last you a long time..........especially on e drums.

Let me know how you went,
                          Chris.B
