Check out the standard kits and see if there is one that you like the
sound of.  Kit 7 is PHATT.  To get a full sound you can "layer" two
voices.  When editing a voice for a pad, you will see a value V=1. 
This is voice 1.  You can assign another sound to voice 2 so that both
sounds will sound when the pad is hit.  So you could have a snare and
tom sound simultaneously from the snare pad, for example.  You can
also alter the way these sounds are mixed together - check out "layer
balance" and "cross fade" in the manual.
