Working with the 3 Zone DTXpander

2006-07-19 by smithabcdef

Hello all,

This is more of an informational post than a question. Well, it
started out as a question, then I found the answer, and I thought that
you all may be interested.

I am attempting to make a 3 zone ride cymbal, using the circuit
DTXpander 3 zone, but am having a few problems. If I test it on the
snare input, all is well, and I can get three different sounds.
However, I cannot get the ride (or crash, for that matter), to accept
more than two inputs - they only seem to recognise the main input and
the edge.

During the course of my troubleshooting, I tried hooking my snare pad
(TP65S) into the ride input; even then it does not detect more than 2
inputs.

The manual says that "3 zone pads... can be connected to Trigger Input
Jacks 2 Snare, 6 Ride, and 7 Crash 1".

At this time, I thought about the trigger settings. I had already set
the ride / crash to PCY3 (3 zone cymbal), so I assumed all was well.
I was wrong.

It seems as if PCY3 does not work with 3 zone inputs; instead, I had
to set it to Snare/A. After I did that, I could get regular, edge,
and cup sounds from my sensors via the DTXpander circuit. So, in case
anybody cares, use the input type as Snare if you have problems with
the third zone of a three zone pad.

Just out of interest, do other people have this problem as well? Or
am I unique in that?

Thanks
