Tony,

To control the splash you need to adjust the splash detect time.  This
is the "T" parameter next to the HH OffS parameter in the trigger
menu.  To get the splash the DTXpress tries to mimic how a real hi-hat
would work - you press your foot down and release it straight away. 
The hi-hat T parameter adjusts how short or long the foot can stay
down before it decides you want the splash sound.  Try playing with
that value (page 14 of the DTXpress III reference manual).
