Another type of Hi Hat related question

Another type of Hi Hat related question

2006-09-30 by TF

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a free standing hi-hat for my Dtexpress III as
shown in the photo in the home page of this group. Anyways I now have
an extra pad which was my old hi hat controller.

I want to use it as an extra tom, but when I look behind my controller
module, I can only see one free input which is a symbole input.

Is there a way I can use this pad as a tom? Also I don't have any free
cables. Would a regular stereo 1/8 inch cable do the trick?

Thanks guys

Tony

Tony,

You can use the pad in socket 9/10, no problem, just assign the pads
as the correct type (presumably a TP65) in the trigger menu and assign
whatever voice you like to it. There is no real distinction between
what is a cymbal or tom pad. As it is, the standard DTXpress uses a
"tom" pad for the hi-hat!

A standard stereo cable will do fine for connecting, although they are
1/4" (6.35mm) not 1/8". If you want to add yet another pad to the
9/10 input later you will need a stereo to mono splitter cable.

Keith.

ps. no spelling correction posts please - this is the DTXpress forum.
Some of you may have noticed the recent spelling related discussion
disappeared. I felt it was unhelpful and off topic depending on how
you look at it. I would like to keep the group friendly and on-topic,
but if anyone wants to disagree with my action deleting them, please
send me a private email.

Thanks Keith,

I'll try it out and let you know how it works. I've
noticed that my new hihat is very senstive at times. I
sometimes get a spash hit when I simply want a closed
high hat sound. Do you know of anyway to fox this. I
tried playing with the sensitivity settings but I
didn't notice any difference.

Hi Tony,

I just want to let you know that I`ve got the same problem: Very
little sensitivity in the controler of the RHH130, the pad itself is
very nice and gives a good feeling while playing it! Yesterday I`ve
tinkered with all parameters and settings the whole afternoon but
couldn`t find a solution nor achieve even smallest improvements....
that`s really disappointing.

Tony,

To control the splash you need to adjust the splash detect time. This
is the "T" parameter next to the HH OffS parameter in the trigger
menu. To get the splash the DTXpress tries to mimic how a real hi-hat
would work - you press your foot down and release it straight away.
The hi-hat T parameter adjusts how short or long the foot can stay
down before it decides you want the splash sound. Try playing with
that value (page 14 of the DTXpress III reference manual).

Keith.
