The old headphone volume question revisited

1999-12-15 by vcrmac@xxxxxxxxx.xxx

Hi all,
Please see below new response to a message I sent to Yamaha a
while ago regarding the low headphone volume on the module.
I have to say that this reminds me of some of those drummer
jokes that go around. I seriously doubt that Yamaha is
limiting the volume on their stereos or amps, which have
headphone jacks as well, in order to protect the ears of
music listeners that purchase those products. What makes them
think that someone buying an e-drum set is any more prone to
this moronic behavior than the general public that they sell
their other stuff to? Ridiculous answer.

In any case, I hope he joins this list. He'll never find a
better source of direct customer feedback than here or on
Giles' website. By the way, great start on the site Giles and
Paul, thanks for the tip on the Steinberg USB MIDI unit. I
think I'll give it a go when I get my sequencer software.
Don't worry Giles, I'll send you some kits when I figure it
all out.
Later,
Rick

Rick,
Thanks for the tip on the message board. Sorry for
the delay in answering this. Regarding the headphone
volume, they're all designed that way. YAMAHA has a
strong concern that some over-zealous drummer will max-up
the volume, damage his hearing... or worse.... then sue
everyone in sight. They suggest using a headphone amplifier
or pre-amp of some sort.

Hello,
FYI, a message board has been set up by and for users of
the DTXpress kit. We thought that you would like to know
this as it would provide you with direct feedback on your
excellent product by people who are using is every day.
Find it at:
http://www.onelist.com/community/DTXpress

One question: We have found that the headphone volume on the
DTXpress cannot be made loud enough. It is very difficult
to hear the drum sounds compared to an outside source
(cd player) or the songs in the module. I have adjusted the
kit volume and the volume knob to it's highest level but
drums are still not loud enough through headphones.
Can you help with a solution?

Thank you,
Rick
