I have no recording experience whatsoever! - I just know the DTXpress
fairly well.  The standard kits are normally set up with a stereo
"image" with hihat to one side, floor tom to the other, other toms
spread around, kick in the centre etc.  These setings are under each
voice in each kit.  The principle behind that arrangement is to try to
replicate an acoustic kit sound (probably exaggerated a little to the
extreme left & right).  

I would suggest you plug the left & right in and record it as it is
and see how you like it.  You could then change the postions of the
sounds in the DTXpress to get the balance you like.
