I found that the hi-hats tend to rub against the the stands shaft which prevent them from fully opening or closing at times. Yamaha actually made a very poor system for this hi-hat. The bracket that mounts to the bottom of the high hat with the wing nuts is very poorly designed and very cheaply made. The hih-hats are too heavy for the plastic-pot metal system and tend to not stay tight which causes even further rubbing against the hi-hat shaft. I have found a solution that seems to be working thus far... Put a washer in between the two back pieces that act as a collar for the hi hat shaft then tighten the round grooved nut and the wing nut. This will allow more clearance for the hi-hat shaft to move freely up and down. Purchase a tube of lithium grease and grease the hi-hat shaft. Also grease inside the collar area, especially where the hi-hat shaft touches. The hi-hats will be slightly shakier, but not enough to really matter or enough to affect your playing. The response of the hi-hats are now much much better. Yamaha should redesign the entier mounting bracket for this hi-hat so that these modifications are not neccessary. It amazes me that they didn't do it right to begin with. Gheeeeeeeze! Happy drumming everyone!
