Stuff related to drumming

2008-02-15 by John Allsopp

Since Keith mentioned related matters, here's something that definitely
won't be the sort of thing you'd expect to hear on here.

My g/f has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and one possible thing that might
help that is diet, and the diet we are undertaking is the Paleolithic
diet, which basically means eat the diet you have evolved to eat.
Pre-agriculture. So it's basically, meat, fish, eggs, nuts, veg (but not
starchy veg like potatoes) and fruit, and herbs/spices. Nothing
processed, no grains or legumes. Except we don't eat meat, so there's
lots of fish.

Sounds boring, but with good quality foods (we've always bought organic,
and are lucky enough to live in a fishing town) the food is actually
genuinely fantastic.

I'm also a runner, and, two weeks into this diet, I have had issues with
stamina, since there's little carbohydrate there. I think I've resolved
that with dried apricots and bananas.

Other than that I feel fantastic. Specifically, I feel like I'm really
here and I'm more open to what's going on around me. Prior to this we
didn't eat a bad diet, so I imagine the transition from a poor diet to
this would be even more marked.

I've had two practices recently, and both times my drumming's been much
improved, and my interaction with other band members and willingness to
try something new on the spur of the moment has increased.

I noticed this, but at the last practice, the other band members noticed
it too.

So maybe drumming is like a sport, you kinda need your body and mind to
be all sorted out.

I've lost weight too.

Not sure how it'll pan out long-term, but this has improved my drumming
more than practicing my paradiddles.

I'm not selling anything, just thought I'd share.
