Patti, I have downloaded the DD502 manual but it doesn't tell you a lot. My guess is that the hi-hat pedal is a switch, like the Alesis DM5 so you will get closed or open - nothing in between. See http://www.vdrums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25291 Keith.
