Hi Perry
I use 2 yamaha msr400's... They are 400 watts and cost used about $450 each. This also allows me to use a Yorkville ps210px sub woofer as well. on our rig we have a tascam we use for recording and everything goes into it and is mixed right there then it goes out to the sub woofers and then to the msr400 powered speakers. This allows us to have stereo drums(and guitar) which can be a very interesting effect!

I would have used mackie or yorkville or osb or any of the popular brands, it was the price that drew me to this system(used msr400 and used ps210px locally) Music shops like Long & mcQuade rent these things out by the dozens and will sooner or later put them out for sale used. These powered speakers can be found with lower wattage. I saw 100 watt and 75 watt units for much less... even a set of computer speakers(really low wattage) could be used too if you're low on cash! You just need a plug that will convert 1/4" to 1/8" to match up the plugs.

Any reccommendations on an affordable amp for my DTX IV?
