are using IS a splitter. It sounds as if you have a stereo cable that 
splits into two stereo jacks (or plugs). Make certain it splits the 
stereo into a right and a left. That should make it function properly!
 To test, plug your cable into a stereo headphone jack. Plug stereo 
phones in. If you have stereo out of both jacks, it is the wrong 
cable. If you get mono on the same side in each jack, it should be the 
proper cable.
