The D-connector refers to the MIDI/game port of the soundcard - not the serial port. I don't know much about the Extigy (although I've seen pictures of them and I'm VERY jealous) - but I reckon you could use it's USB port to connect directly to the Inspiron. Windows should pick up the Extigy and configure it for you. Otherwise a standard MIDI cable will do.
