depends on what you want. A standard dtx unit is
around $150, the dtxpress unit is about $70-80. The
dtxpress isn't the best kick trigger though. read any
page of comments in the dtxpress owners group and
you'll get an idea of problems associated with the
trigger. There are other brands you can go to that
will work excellent with your drums too. As far as
getting one I would call either interstate percussion
(1-877-213-2580) or drumworld in castle shannon
(412-343-2600) both places will ship anywhere and can
get most anything you need if they don't don't already
have it in stock. Hope this helps. -Joe

I prefer the pintech ones over the yamaha kick, that thing breaks too much. This site has awesome deals on pintech stuff, best I have seen so far..

Re: [DTXpress] Re: extra bass drum

2002-07-17 by Joseph Palacki

Roland kicks work very well. As far as connections go
pretty much EVERY pad is connected to your drum brain
via a 1/4" instument cable. Difference between
stereo and dual drum pads is were it can get
confusing. Most roland pads are "dual" because most
roland brains work with dual inputs. Most yamaha pads
are "stereo". A single kick trigger or pad will work
in either type of input. It's only when you're
triggering two different sounds from different zones
of a pad that you need to worry about these things.
Just a little note though, all jacks except jack
"9/10" on the yamaha dtxpress are stereo jacks.
"9/10" is a dual jack and can accomodate rold dual
pads if you ever get one. -Joe

Re: [DTXpress] Re: extra bass drum

I ordered it because I was on a limited budget, and needed it for a show in 2 days, and I was under the impression I was just going to buy a good one before we go on tour.. I got it, and I was extremely pleased. It had a good feel to it, it was fairly quiet for those headphone players, and was very sensitive to velocity. Had a nice bounce to it as well. I am extremely pleased with that little egokik. The beater is really ugly and made of wood, but you'll get used to it.

Re: extra bass drum

2002-07-18 by otacon28us

yeah i would say that the pintech ergo's are worth getting,i had a
set of 2 of them for my kit before i upgraded to the pintech vk-
10's,they respond really well with a single pedal for each one ,or
you can use a double pedal on just one ergokik trigger, plus as a
bonus the newer version of the ergokik triggers (the k3)has dual
inputs on it so like the roland kd7's you can link both of the kick
triggers together using a patch cable, and then only occupy one input
on your module. the inverted beater set-up is a little strange at
first ,but after about 10 minutes or so you really don't notice the
oddness of it,and as you can tell from the size they are very compact
so it won't require a whole lot of space for it on your e-kit set-
up.. just a personal note if you're looking for different price
options on kick triggers you may wnat to check out ed's site as well
at www.drumbalaya.com (note this is not spaming,he just has some
really good deals on there ,and i know people who have dealt with him
allready, and have been very pleased with the outcome of the deal)

hope this helps,
              sam(otacon28)

Re: extra bass drum

hello everyone,

does anybody have any ideas on where i might be able to get the
Ergokik Compact Kick with Inverted Beater (K3) in the UK? just to
confirm with existing owners or anyone else who has a clue, will this
pedal allow me to link up my existing dtxpress pedal tower (the one
supplied with the kit) providing a double base setup using only the
existing bass drum input. from what i understand this is all possible
and all that i need to do is to get another pedal, like the Ergokik
Compact Kick K3, and a patch cable to link both pedals together. also
im assuming that there is only one type of patch cable (being not
entirely sure what a patch cable is), if not could somebody please
specify what type i will be needing & if possible where they can be
purchased in the UK.

thank you very much for your help, it is much appretiated :)
great group by the way, happy drummin ppl
pete

Re: [DTXpress] Re: extra bass drum

2002-07-19 by Walt

Hi Pete,

I can help with the general questions - but the ones
about where to get these in the UK are beyond what I
can help you with.

You should be able to take what I call a cable and
connect the two pedals together so they go to the same
input.

This is a pretty basic cable - one that combines the
two mono pedals into one mono plug that goes inot the
DTXpress. In techie terms, a mono cable has two wires
in it - one called the tip and one called the ring.
This Y cable takes the tip wires from two plugs and
combines it to one tip on the third plug, then does
the same with the ring wires.

Does that help?

inspiron setup

2002-07-19 by malakies2000

cheers walt, it actually makes sense now, sound as a pound. if
anybody has any info on the UK questions please lemme know if you
can..

also i have another quick question relating to the type of MIDI
cable. i have some old cables but they dont look anything like the
picture on giles' site.. when he says the d-connector does he mean
the serial port? if not what port would i be using on my computer?
perhaps it would be easier if i explained what equipment i have..

1) dell inspiron 8100
2) soundblaster extigy souncard
3) dtxpress kit (obviously!)

the extigy souncard has MIDI in/out sockets on the back and the
laptop has plenty of ports including serial, parallel and USB. could
somebody please briefly explain what MIDI cable i'd need and how
it'll be connected. and also how much you reckon the cables worth,
cos i dont much fancy gettin ripped off!!

thanks alot chaps, much appretiated
pete

Re: [DTXpress] inspiron setup

2002-07-21 by Giles Hearn

The D-connector refers to the MIDI/game port of the
soundcard - not the serial port. I don't know much
about the Extigy (although I've seen pictures of them
and I'm VERY jealous) - but I reckon you could use
it's USB port to connect directly to the Inspiron.
Windows should pick up the Extigy and configure it for
you. Otherwise a standard MIDI cable will do.

BTW, I too have an Inspiron 8100 - did you know that
the TV out port also has a digital audio out
connector? Not bad, eh?
