Re: Pintech Zenbal ZB2 (14 inch stereo cymbal)

2002-11-06 by liberatusvirus

Hi Sam,

The Zenbal puts the TCs to bed (no offense to those on strict
budgets). One important consideration about the ZB2 as a ride is
that its relatively large rim and inert bell doesn't leave an
enormous amount of room for riding; an 18" would certainly be better
in that respect. Maybe if Pintech has enough success with this
model, they'll expand the line. Personally, I hope so. I'm
satisfied with the rebound action of the ZB2, but my reaction may be
subjective. Too bad the dealer wouldn't let you tinker.
Unfortunately, my setup won't let me test it as a high hat. My gut
feeling is that, even though its dual zone may have definite
advantages in high-hat use, the raised rim and slender bow may make
it awkward to manipulate a stick between one zone and the other.
Again, this may be the kind of difficulty that a resourceful drummer
could overcome, and, of course, the single-zone is an option for
anyone who can live without two triggers on a high-hat. I use a
Drum Tech pole pad for high hat. Not only does it have two distinct,
sensitive mono triggers that can be mounted high; the rounded edge
also allows me to play with the shaft of the stick. The drawback is
that it certainly doesn't look, or respond, like a traditional high
hat. But, for now, I'm addicted to it.
