A thick carpet won't help that much, contact noise still gets throug.
I've got a great tip for you that unfortunately takes some woodcrafting
skill. What I did was get some wooden strips (about 5mm thick, six
centimeters wide and forty centimeters long) and glued a half cilinder of
wood at each end:

The thickness is chosen in such a way, that the wood is flexible. I put one
of these under each of the four rubber things on which the rack stands on
the floor, and two under each pedal. You won't get any contact noise
anymore!

I got the idea when I heared of a drummer who built his acoustic kit on
these wooden crates that are used to transport stuff by forklifts (don't=t
know how they are called exactly).
