OK Jade, Let's see how far I can get before my brain melts down - Look below for my thoughts. OK, first, you use the word static. That bothers me because the rejection settings really prevent you from hearing a pad's sound when you're not hitting that pad. Say, for example, you hit your crash, and you hear the tom just below it also sound off. Tweaking the rejection settings can help that problem. The key here is that you will hear another pad's sound, not static. Before we go to much further on this one, can you verify that you're really hearing static, instead of just using that word to describe something not working right? > Tonite I wrote down ALL my custom kit settings on > that trigger map > sheet, and I was reminded about how LITTLE I know > about this kit. The short answer is that the rules for the HH are different from the rest of the pads - you can only assign one sound to each of the HH functions (open, close, splash, foot close). > What is AltG for and what does it DO? Again, the short answer is that because all of the HH functions are set to the same Alternate Group )AltG), only one of them will sound at a time. For example, you can't have to Open and close sounds play together, that wouldn't be natural. If the open sound is playing, and you step on the pedal, the DTX will stop the open sound and start playing the closed sound instead. > HOLD is set to OFF on all pads...what would happen > if I turned it on? The sound will keep playing until you hit the pad again. > KEY OFF is set to DISABLE...what would happen if it > is enabled? MIDI terminology is commonly based on Keyboards - a Key On is what happens when you press down a key on a keyboard. Usually you want this to start something (like a voice or maybe a song). If you keep holding that key down, the thing you started should continue. Key Off is what happens when you release the key, and usually you want that to stop whatever you started when you pressed the key. Now, if we think in terms of the DTX, that explanation may lead you to wonder 'if I have Key Off set to Disable, why don't the voices all keep playing'? Most drum sounds are like digital recordings of real drums, and they do not go on forever, so this parameter doesn't really impact them. There are some keyboard voices in the DTX that if used, with Key Off set to disable, will keep on playing like the Enegizer Bunny, until you press the Shift and Voice keys on the DTX to stop them. > FUNCTION on all pads is set to NORMAL-what's this > do? You can have pads play sounds (Normal), or control the playing of one of the internal songs (Pad Song), control the Click sound (Click On/Off), or the other stuff in the manual. > This PAD SONG thing-does that mean if I hit a > certain pad, that one > of the preset songs in the DTX will start/stop? Most likely, User kits are usually based on predefined kits, and they usually have sounds assigned for all of the pads. The DTX is set up for 2 voices (V=1 or 2) per pad, except for the HH as we talked about above, and another voice for those pads that have Rim triggers (the R in Tom1R or OpenR) > Also what does "COPY TO INPUT" mean? You can use this to save just the voice settings. If you are in a User Kit, that's where they'll go. It does not save the entire user kit, that is done on the main panel via the save function. You can also use this to copy your voice settings to another pad - an easy way to make a carbon copy of them. AND WHERE > is input 8? How > do I acess that input? You can't - you can only access it via Open, OpenR, Close, CloseR, Splash and Foot Close - in other words, the HH functions. Am I making this too > complicated? > Iknow...I know...read the manuel!
