Jade and Scott, I've been racking my brain about the distortion thing. It may be irrelevant to your situations--and I sure hope that I'm not complicating matters needlessly--but I now vaguely recall that when I first got my DTXpress, I heard something that resembled a clipping noise as well. I attbributed it to my KP60, which was suffering from far worse problems, including serious dropouts. For me, the sound went away when I got fed up with tinkering and bought a new kick pedal. By the way, post 2648 is about distortion as well. Is it like yours? I also remember Giles Hearn commenting about distortion from the outputs; it may have been as far back as 1999 or 2000. But if reducing levels judiciously in your cases eliminates it, it's not the same as mine was. The best-case scenario would be phones or cables.
