GH: You are right about the "X-fade" being quite abrupt. But knowing that, allows you to quite intentionally move between the two voices. I found that using the "X" fade at it's far right position suited my toms, one position left of that for the snare/rimshot transition. I don't find much difference using the big X or the little x, just it's relative position. The one strange exception seems to be the crash cymbal voices. I have tried these with and without a fade, and with the gains set differently... V1+V2 seem to trigger together with that "phasey, swinging crash" sound. (I think it sounds more realistic than switching between two sounds.) Granted, everyone plays differently so relative gains and fade envelope will differ for each player's style. Beginners: "gain"(sensitivity) is in the "trigger" menu, while "Volume is on a "voice page"i have found that the ride cymbal voices are too quiet. To access"V1" & "V2"and the fade functions, press the "voice" button and strike the pad you want to adjust.(don't forget to save your new kit to a number 50 or up...) V2 is listed as "No Assign"...Yamaha hasn't preset any layered voices! Odd, considering that their kit presets should serve as examples of what can be done with the hundreds of voices available. MO PS: anyone figured out how the "layer balance" works ? --- In DTXpress@onelist.com, Giles Hearn <giles_hearn@y...> wrote: > Excellent tips!
