Noisy kick pad

2000-05-12 by Rolf Baehr

Ah yes, the noisy Yamaha Kick pad.....

IMHO, the kick pad is the one weak link in the DTXpress set. After fighting
with quality problems with mine, and finding the thing totally annoying, I
went and bought an S&S Stealth kick pad. You can see them at:

http://www.triggerperfect.com/ssindex.htm

They're small, very quiet, and play much better than the "hard as a brick"
Yamaha pad. The thing that makes them more comfortable to play and much
quieter, is the composition of the pad. If you look at the picture at the
above site, you'll notice the tall round pad that the inverted striker hits.
It has the feel and consistency of something like Silly Putty, or those
things that you buy at the store that you squeeze for stress relief. So not
only are they quiet, but they're much easier on the leg because it absorbs
alot of the shock. With the Yamaha, you really feel every stroke vibrating
up your leg. I don't experience the leg fatigue that I did with the Yamaha
pad.

Hope that helps... at least go check one out. I believe that it's the
answer to alot of folks problems with the Yamaha kick pad. Hey, at least
your old one will make a good paper weight!

Rolf
