Re: Ideal Setup for DTXexpressII

2003-08-21 by onyx2013

Paul,

I have the DTXpress 2 module and the Alesis DM5 running into a litle
3 channel mixer. I believe this configuration is pretty standard for
those looking to expand beyond the 10 trigger limit.

If you don't want to shell out the cash for the mixer, you can use
the DM5 as a pass-through module by hooking it's midi-out to the
DTXpress midi-in and the DM5 will trigger DTXpress voices on channel
10. The DTXpress allows you to assign any voice to any incoming midi
note so the voice the DM5 generates becomes irrelevant.

One advantage of this setup is that it allows you to use only
DTXpress voices which in most cases is a good thing as you will most
likely prefer the DTXpress voices to those of the DM5. I tried snare,
kick and cymbal voices on the DM5 and did not like any of them but I
do prefer the DM5 tom voices "out of the box" although the pitch
constraints make it a challenge to squeeze in 5 toms.
