Ideal Setup for DTXexpressII

Ideal Setup for DTXexpressII

2003-08-21 by bmwbikerdave

Hi,

I'm a newbie and am comtemplating the purchase of the
DTXexpressII. I have some knowledge of the system but I need this
groups opinion.

I would like to move the hi-Hat pad to jack 9 and change it to a
4th tom, move the ride cymbal (no damping) to jack 10. Then I would
add a new HiHat cymbal and a new crash cymbal (with damping) make &
model TBD. Would this work?

Also, one other question. how well will the Yamaha pads work with
say a DM5 or DM PRO in case I want to add a another module in the
future.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Dave

It would work perfectly. It's similar to part of what I've done.
Check out messages 4974 for text and 5117 for a link to pictures of
my setup.

The Yamaha pads work fine. I have 5 TP65 running into my DM5 for my
Toms and everthing else running through the DTXpress. You can see a
photo in onyx's album.

Really Inspector, do you seriously expect me to believe that on 21/8/03 8:14

Interesting this dual module thing. Could you explain in a little more
detail how your set-up works, and what's connected to what?

Thanks - pb

All,

This is the type of information that needs to stored in someway in
the files area.

If we can list the modules that are being used by current members and
which pads they have been successfully using with them and what
settings in the setup menu's was used, it would benefit everyone.

Whether the info is stored here or at the dtxpression site, it
doesn't really matter. I could generate a spreadsheet to track this
but I'm not sure everyone would be able to access it in that format.

I don't see any reason for the list to be confined to Yamaha only, it
should included any known combinations that work as many here have
mixed manufacturer's equipment here already.

Anybody else interested in seeing something like this generated?

Paul,

Welcome to the site. Typically when you have two modules or more (I
have three) they are not inter-connected, feeding one through the
other. You take the audio out from each module and run it through a
mixer.

Paul,

I have the DTXpress 2 module and the Alesis DM5 running into a litle
3 channel mixer. I believe this configuration is pretty standard for
those looking to expand beyond the 10 trigger limit.

If you don't want to shell out the cash for the mixer, you can use
the DM5 as a pass-through module by hooking it's midi-out to the
DTXpress midi-in and the DM5 will trigger DTXpress voices on channel
10. The DTXpress allows you to assign any voice to any incoming midi
note so the voice the DM5 generates becomes irrelevant.

One advantage of this setup is that it allows you to use only
DTXpress voices which in most cases is a good thing as you will most
likely prefer the DTXpress voices to those of the DM5. I tried snare,
kick and cymbal voices on the DM5 and did not like any of them but I
do prefer the DM5 tom voices "out of the box" although the pitch
constraints make it a challenge to squeeze in 5 toms.

Yes! Would you believe the official line that I got from Yamaha UK recently
is that expansion isn't possible beyond utilising the 9/10 input - they
obviously don't subscribe to this list do they!
