Adam,

Based on what you're saying now, I'd rule out any physical problem 
with the pedal in favor of what you alluded to yourself. You might 
just be exhausting the module's 32-note polyphony when playing with 
the preset songs, thereby causing voices over the limit to drop out. 
There's not much you can do about it, except for eliminating some of 
your layers, reducing decay on at least some of the voices, playing 
fewer notes, cutting down on your kit real estate, or practicing with 
an outside source (CD/MP2/MIDI player) instead.
