During normal play, my bass drum will play back very loud pretty much one out of every five hits. I'm hitting the pad with the same amount of force each time but it still plays back at what seem like random volumes. Is there anybody here that has experienced anything similar?

Which model do you have, KP60 or 65? It could be a loose connection on the board or bad soldering. If the pad's new, let Yamaha handle it. If not, opening and troubleshooting it may be your only option. The KP60 was notorious for this problem. Ed

By the way, did you try another cable?

Actually, to be a little more specific, I only get those two problems when I'm playing along with one of the preset songs. Could it be that the dtxpress is trying to process too many things at once during certain parts of the songs combined with my playing on top of them? The cymbals don't choke out early and the kick is consistently as loud as it should be when I'm playing normally(not with a preset song). Any ideas? Thanks a bunch. Adam

Adam, Based on what you're saying now, I'd rule out any physical problem with the pedal in favor of what you alluded to yourself. You might just be exhausting the module's 32-note polyphony when playing with the preset songs, thereby causing voices over the limit to drop out. There's not much you can do about it, except for eliminating some of your layers, reducing decay on at least some of the voices, playing fewer notes, cutting down on your kit real estate, or practicing with an outside source (CD/MP2/MIDI player) instead.
