Re: [DTXpress] drum samplers

2003-11-04 by distortion@rogers.com

I use the DTXpress kit to trigger sounds from a Yamaha A3000 sampler and
a Kawai XD-5 Drum synth (as well as some sounds from the DTXpress
module, of course)
The sheer quantity and quality of sounds available to a sampler is quite
worth it! You can pick up some older samplers that are easy to use like
an old Ensoniq EPS16M or a Roland S550 for a few hundred or so bucks and
start buying sampleCDs from you local shop.

Slipknot fat drum sounds??? The few songs I heard from them, the drums
were REALLY thin and cracking... And what's with Lars snare sound on the
new Metallica album? Sounds like a Pearl Export snare in an oil drum
recorded in a shower stall..

Gimme the kick and snare from When The Levy Breaks (Led Zep.) or
Intruder (Peter Gabriel) with the cymbals from the early Kinks, and the
toms from Beautiful People (M.Manson)

It may be benificail for you to pick up a general guide to MIDI and the
ins and outs of it... (pun intended) Craig Anderton had some out back a
long time ago... It would really help you out when it comes to stacking
multiple sounds and modules together to form the kit of your wettest dreams.
