I must confess to never having used the metronome or groove check
functions on the DTXpress (having played drums for 40 years or so
should entitle someone to at least the illusion of decent
timekeeping). But if someone actually went to the trouble of
recording MIDI rudiments to a sequencer in time, via pads or a drum
machine, for eventual placement on a DTXpress, the groove check could
serve as way to assess progress in playing them for speed. As a
proponent of "emotional" timekeeping myself when it comes to actual
music (while still realizing the importance of learning to keep good
time), I could certainly see how a groove check for rudiments would
be a great learning tool.

OGD, you should consider writing your idea up as a tip on
DTXpressions. Now, Who's a good rudimentary technician with a
sequencer handy, willing to lay down the MIDI? My sequencer and kit
are worlds apart for the time being, and all my playing/mixing/
recording (such as they are) take place on separate analog devices,
though I suppose I could resurrect my old Roland 505 and drag it up
and down the stairs. God, I don't even remember how that thing works
anymore. Any marching-band MIDI aficionados out there?
