R.E.T. Percussion

I've just invited Rhett Wheeler of R.E.T. Percussion
(http://www.retpercussion.us/) to introduce himself formally on the
board and to send us information about the company. Those of you who
are not familiar with his products, and appreciate e-drums with the
look and feel of acoustics, will like what you see. I hope that Rhett
sees fit to honor us with his presence.

Excellent.

Ed, since we have not gotten a response from our pending membership into the
dtxpress-tech group, I sent an email directly to the list owner requesting
more information. I will let you know if they respond.

Ed,

I got an email response from the dtxpress-tech owner. It was actually
one our members here that created it back when we were wrestling with
the spam issue and we were talking about how if we could not re-take
control of this group that maybe we should start a new one. The
member actually forgot about it and was only reminded of it when I
emailed today.

It's good to know that we weren't found lacking on more substantive
grounds. A rudiments function would also be a good idea. When we feel
comfortable about making a concerted pitch to Yamaha for formal
recognition, we can put together a members' wish list.

Ed,

Couldn't the rudiments be "recorded" to a user song in the DtxpressII and
then one could just play along to it? If it was in a Midi format, then you
could at least adjust the tempo, right? I don't know how the groove check
would fit in though. Just a thought as I was walking out the door. Any
thoughts?

Rudiments, Metronome, and Groove Check (was: R.E.T. Percussion)

I must confess to never having used the metronome or groove check
functions on the DTXpress (having played drums for 40 years or so
should entitle someone to at least the illusion of decent
timekeeping). But if someone actually went to the trouble of
recording MIDI rudiments to a sequencer in time, via pads or a drum
machine, for eventual placement on a DTXpress, the groove check could
serve as way to assess progress in playing them for speed. As a
proponent of "emotional" timekeeping myself when it comes to actual
music (while still realizing the importance of learning to keep good
time), I could certainly see how a groove check for rudiments would
be a great learning tool.

OGD, you should consider writing your idea up as a tip on
DTXpressions. Now, Who's a good rudimentary technician with a
sequencer handy, willing to lay down the MIDI? My sequencer and kit
are worlds apart for the time being, and all my playing/mixing/
recording (such as they are) take place on separate analog devices,
though I suppose I could resurrect my old Roland 505 and drag it up
and down the stairs. God, I don't even remember how that thing works
anymore. Any marching-band MIDI aficionados out there?

Wow. Those are beautiful instruments.

Off to Music Live this weekend with the offspring, on a mission to
(a) hook up with Colin at Koby and check out his gear, (b) see if I
can winkle any information out of the Yamaha UK reps, (c) not spend
any money. Wish me luck.

Stewart,

If you don't want to spend any money, you can't just go with the
kids; you have to bring your wife, too.

Alas, alackaday and rue, Chris has decided she quite fancies a quiet
Sunday on her own. I can't say as I blame her...

I can see the headlines now: "Moosetication Visits Music Live.
Announces deals too good to pass up; the wife will understand. Drinks
for everyone (parental discretion advised)!"
