Does this setting not change the overall set highs & lows? I would be concerned of the effect on PA sound.

Its not a _perceived_ increase in volume, it _is_ an increase in
volume.
This is similar to the way your stereo sounds louder when bass and
treb dials are maxed as opposed to them being in the middle. The
volume of the bass and treble frequencies are raised. If both are
raised together, most of the sound is amplified.

Just try it.
