Thanks for the welcoming comments. 
Regarding the DTX3 - from pictures I've seen on Japanese 
websites (check out: http://www.gakki.com/shop3/yamaha_dtx.html) it 
looks like there are four models in the range, the Standard, Standard 
Plus, Special and Special Plus with the 'Standard' looking very 
similar to the DTX2 although I guess the brain module will be new. 
I'll certainly be checking out the availability of the DTX2 in light 
of what you say and look forward to further discussion with DTX
