Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

Hi Bob,

Welcome to the group. Just a few questions/comments:

-Whose sound modules have you tried this with, since I don't see any
references in your post about it being furnished as a part of the kit. As
this would add another $350-$1600 to the overall kit.  

-I don't see a hihat pedal attachment point. I assume it would attach in a
similar fashion as the bass pedal but on the left hand side?

-Can this be modified/setup for a left hand drummer?

-How many pads can the cable snake handle, as most people end up adding an
extra cymbal or pad to fill out thier modules? Even the dtxpress module
comes with two spare zones. So if you connected just your pads to the dtxpu2
and someone what to add just one more pad, the cable would end up outside
the rack running back to zones 9/10 on the module. Therefore spare capacity
on the cable snack should be a serious consideration. (On my cable rack
system, I ran Stereo lines to all jacks, so that I could use any jack with
any pad type.)

-Have you given any consideration for a location for mounting a module to
the rack? The module could then travel with the rack. Or perhaps a
Quick-release bracket to hold the module,so it could be removed while in
transit.

-As someone with "disposable" income (see the photos of my kit in the
archive photo section), my point of view would be expandability. For me, if
I went this route, I would have to start with two racks and do some personal
modifications to the frame. If each rack with pads cost say $1000, it may be
bearable, if each rack costs $2000 then.....$4000 plus two modules... is
money "disposed" of in a better fashion elsewhere. So I think you definition
of your niche market if somewhat correct. Perhaps consideration for a add-on
rack less throne that colapses in a similar fashion. So in my case, it would
be a add-on on the left, the main rack with throne in the middle and an
add-on rack on the right. Again, this is just from my point of view.

-From looking at the prototype it appears there are gas charged lifts. Are
they the limiting factor in the pad types and expandability, due to the
weight issues. So if someone replaced a pad with a Yamaha pad, it maybe too
heavy and thus would not lift correctly or lift at all. This could also have
a impact in anyone using the Roland PM-3 or the new Yamaha MDA-50/100 that
has satillite speakers that mount to the frame. Also the clamps to hold the
speakers would need to be custom made to fit your rack.

-Some of us "OldGuy's" like nice big fat soft seats. The one shown may do
for a teenager, but we would need something more substantial. Since the seat
appears to come off before closing it, can anybody's seat be attached to it.

-I am assuming that all of the pads are single zone?
