As a very satisfied Sennheiser man from way back, I'd love to hear
the Bose cans. And (Mr. McConaghy, you might like to read this
part),one of the designers of the new Bose Personal Amplification
System has offered me a chance to audition the system when schedules
and inventory allow. I won't describe it again here, since I sketched
it on the board a couple of months ago, but interested members should
check it out at the Bose site under products for musicians. For those
working bands that play small to midsized venues, it may be a
godsend, and the system would appear to be a natural for electronic
drums. From what I understand, Guitar Center has an exclusive on it.
Maybe Stuart has a few observations to share.

Yep, we have the Bose Personal Amplification system, and it’s every bit worth the hype. We had had a great deal of skepsis about them, we were one of the last stores to get them, and we didn’t quite believe that this system could sound any good, but we were proven wrong after we set up the demo system. Crystal clear highs, great midrange and real nice bass with 1 bass module, and you have the ability to add on up to 6 bass modules in total. The clarity helps remove that harshness you usually get with Pas, and thanks to it you can actually have a conversation next to it without having to yell too much, even when it’s cranked.
I’ve run mainly electronic music through it, although we have demoed it for singers and acoustic guitarists, and electronic signals work really well. Mainly we tested it with a Roland V Stage kit, and a Korg Electribe ESX1, plus acoustic Taylor guitars with Fishman pickups and several electrics running through a Line 6 POD, all with the same good results.
The whole principle is that every musician on stage has their own system on stage, replacing instrument amps, monitor systems and the entire FOH PA system.
Long story short, for my electronic laptop gigs, I’m requesting a stereo Bose setup with 2 bass modules per side. And if I could afford it I’d buy the rig myself (but that money’s on hold for the DTXtreme IIs).

That’s my 2 cents worth, I love ‘em, people are loving them, and you’ll all be seeing a lot of them around over the next few months. GC has an exclusive right now, we’ve bought everything Bose can make over the next few months, but most of our stores have demo setups, so go check ‘em out.
