From the evidence given, you must be anywhere from 35 to, say, 150
years old. Am I close?

One small town in Scotland has practiced the venerable sport of
drumkit tossing for centuries. Until recently, the locals had only
acoustic kits to throw; the distances were not good. Now that the
young bucks have begun to use e-kits, the old records are falling
faster than kilts in a . . . well, you get the idea. The
traditionalists are grumbling about it, but one positive development
is that heart attacks have largely become a thing of the past. I
think there's a lesson in there somewhere.

I'm betting that your splitter is not of the TRS variety at all but a
stereo to two stereos. Check the plugs at the "Y" end; two rings mean
stereo.
