I've played in everything and nothing on my feet. I eventually gave 
up on socks because my foot slipped too much. Barefoot worked better 
for me because it had better traction, but now I prefer shoes with 
rubber grips. Not only do they hold the pedal as well; they also 
prevent me from injuring my busy foot, which sometimes would hurt 
from gripping the sides of the pedal.
