I have had my kit for a few months now, it seems I can work the pedal more precise and rapidly in my socks, shoes on feels like bricks between the pedals. Any of you guys agree? and do any famous guys play barefoot? Rob

Me too. I play wearin' socks, or sometimes houseshoes. heh. Before I switched to drummer in my band, the drummer at the time played barefoot. There's definitely something there, but I'm not exactly sure why it's any better this way. --- In DTXpress@yahoogroups.com, "Rob" <robarrie2003@y...> wrote:

I've played in everything and nothing on my feet. I eventually gave up on socks because my foot slipped too much. Barefoot worked better for me because it had better traction, but now I prefer shoes with rubber grips. Not only do they hold the pedal as well; they also prevent me from injuring my busy foot, which sometimes would hurt from gripping the sides of the pedal. Ed

I have two drum sets - A vintage (1970's) Ludwig acoustic set and a DTX 1 set (with a Yamaha chain drive pedal on the kick.) I often find that to get the right amount of control on the DTX hi hat pedal, I need to take my shoes off. I carry a pair of old house slippers with the DTX set for that reason. I seem to recall a couple of years back here on the list that there was some similar discussion. Otherwise, for both sets it depends on what shoes I'm wearing. I find that dress shoes often don't have enough flex in the sole to give me the control I want. (We all know that we are ** supposed ** to be working the pedals off the ball of the foot right? (And not be playing flat footed... Like I do most of the time :-)) --- tom

In the early '70s it was nothing but soft-soled moccassins for me. Now, it's whatever the gig calls for; dress shoes, top-siders or ankle-high light duty work boots are the usual. I hardly ever play in tennis or basketball shoes except for at home.

I play mainly barefoot, except for when it's really chilly at an outdoor gig, then I'll wear a pair of Chuck's. For me, I feel I have a closer connection to the pedal, and more control over what's happening, especially with my Premier direct drive pedals. On the "Rush in Rio" DVD there is a shot of Neil Peart with plastic bags on his bare feet as he is being escorted to the stage for one of the shows. It was raining for a couple of the shows in those big outdoor arenas they played in. I assume he must have left his shoes somewhere and they didn't have time to go get them so he could wear them up to the riser and slip them off, so they just used a couple of baggies to cover his feet. ;) --- In DTXpress@yahoogroups.com, Stuart McConaghy <stuart@s...> wrote: > I play mainly barefoot, except for when it's really chilly at an > outdoor gig, then I'll wear a pair of Chuck's.
