I used to use one of these with Simmons pads, MPC pads (I still have 
the analogue 2 channel module for those somewhere.  Hmm...) and 
latterly some Roland pads (PD-5 I think).  I never had a problem 
with any of them.  For the Rolands I had to wire some jack-XLR 
cables up but I couldn't tell you what pins to use although I know 
that one of the three isn't used.

The only thing the PMC1 really lacks is a hi-hat controller of any 
sort.  I sold it with some pads to a friend who wanted to use it 
with his acoustic kit for e-tymps and effects in a club band and 
still does as far as I know.  I wish I'd kept it in many ways as it 
was a good, solid, reliable unit and I could've used it to add extra 
inputs to my DTXpress.
