As far as speakers, i have heard good things about the Yamaha S115V Club V 
Loudspeakers.  Local shop says he rarely has people bring them in for repair 
and have great bottom end.

You could start with a single speaker and a powered mixer.  Then add a 2nd 
speaker later if you would like.  Power it with something like a Behringer 
PMX880S.  Others may suggest a dif mixer.  I just know the speakers are 
great.
