RE: [DTXpress] Re: Cymbal Arm items for PCY65/65S

2004-05-24 by rdamon@mckinney-usa.com

The L-stabilizer bracket only cames with the PCY80S and the PCY65S stereo
versions of the cymbals and not with the mono pad version of the cymbals.
When I was trying to find them for my PCY65 pads, they were available for
$19. Some of the online vendors where taking them out of the PCY65S/PCY80S
boxes and selling them separately. I know this because when calling around
for pricing/availability, some of the vendors would say that the
PCY80S/PCY65S did NOT come with the L-stabilizer bracket, but is was
available separately for $19-$29US. The manual that comes with the pads
clearly state that the L-Stabilizer is included from the factory with the
PCY80S/PCY65S. Considering that the complete pad with cable and bracket is
only $55 and Yamaha is selling the bracket for $45, that is a easy choice
for me, as to which way to go.

There are a few folks here that have made "Home-brewed" brackets and
depending on your DIY skills may be the way to go.

Typically, with Yamaha components, if they are not under warranty and you do
not have the DIY skill to fix it, it is cheaper to just throw it away and
buy a new. For example the FSR ribbon that is in the TP65S and PCY65S can be
bought directly from Yamaha, but it will cost you more for that ribbon than
it would for a complete new cymbal/drum pad. My guess is that the stabilizer
is not something that will ever break, so there is no reason for Yamaha to
carry any spare inventory and thus the high price. After having called
Yamaha about replacement parts in the past, I came to the conclusion that if
you can't physically fix it yourself, that it is cheaper to just throw it
around and buy a new one.

PS:

I had posted a similar question several weeks ago inquiring about the same
part. I finally called YAMAHA customer service. The person who helped me was
very courteous, and even made the effort to send me a copy of the part list
for the DTXpress. However from what the service rep told me, this item costs
$45.00. Thats right...$45.00!!! The part # that was given to me by the rep
was "V8254400"....hope this helps.
