No part of the frequency range is easy to produce cheaply, but the
top and bottom ends are especially difficult to reproduce without
some design finesse. I'm not sure what our areas of agreement and
disagreement are about this, but I'm by no means contradicting
anything that anyone has reported about the Yamaha monitor. I'm only
saying that its anemic specs, and the weak performance that they
imply under certain conditions, do not necessarily also mean that
they would sound so awful within these limitations. The bad sound is
an empirical observation that was not predictable without listening.
No one should be faulted because they didn't anticipate it. I'd love
to get many more reviews of amps, both known and unknown, for member
to discuss.
