The file doesn't work. It is only a 1kb file. .m3u files are playlists and not the actual audio files. Post the audio, I would like to hear it. i have this track and another track on a cd from when i was in the
studio working on these tunes(it's an early version of the tunes)
basically just the music tracks, but it still gives the basic idea...
i have real player on my pc,and all i need to know is how i can pull
it up ,and where to save it so i can get access when i go into the
file posting area ... do i need to post the file through my
dtxpress?? or can it just be pulled up some other how.. please excuse
my technical ignorance,i'm not big on doing alot of audio stuff with
my pc yet..
as soon as i find out how to post these tracks ,i'll get them right
on there,,
thanks,
sam(otacon28)

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but Behringer's quality control and reliability are by no means a lock. The company still has some proving to do before the odds are stacked in its favor, despite the fact that a few members of this group have had good luck with the KX1200. Buying a Yamaha monitor, purportedly designed expressly for its current kits, would not on the surface seem a terribly dangerous move (Yamaha's quality control and reliability have always been top notch), even though the specs might seem a little suspect for an e-kit. That Dan found the sound quality so bad is a bit of a surprise. I might have predicted that the bass would be thin and the volume inadequate for certain purposes, but even within those limitations, other sonic qualities might have been able to elevate it to respectability. It will be interesting to build a larger database about the various options. Ed

Ed, I agree with you to a point... I have played on the "smaller" yamaha set and I can't imagine what the difference would be in the "sattilite" speakers but they are awful... very harsh! but granted cymbals aren't easy to reproduce! especially cheaply! No part of the frequency range is easy to produce cheaply, but the top and bottom ends are especially difficult to reproduce without some design finesse. I'm not sure what our areas of agreement and disagreement are about this, but I'm by no means contradicting anything that anyone has reported about the Yamaha monitor. I'm only saying that its anemic specs, and the weak performance that they imply under certain conditions, do not necessarily also mean that they would sound so awful within these limitations. The bad sound is an empirical observation that was not predictable without listening. No one should be faulted because they didn't anticipate it. I'd love to get many more reviews of amps, both known and unknown, for member to discuss. Ed

Well, I think this particular model should be discontinued, I'm glad I never had the chance to hear something from yamaha that produces such horrible sound. It is unfortunate for one of our members to have gone through such a travesty.

Ed and I had tossed around the possible pro's and con's of this system before my purchase(thanks Ed). I knew going in that it would be somewhat weak, but there were no hidden specs or misleading claims: 8" 50watt woofer, 4" 20watt satellites- you can only "punch" so hard with those tools!!! As we've read of members experimenting with computer desktop speakers and other systems( NOT designed for the wide e-drum ranges), this certainly seemed like the right alternative as an inexpensive means for light to moderate amplification (DESIGNED for e-drums by the e-drum manufacturer!)The real issue here is probably more on a personal note, as I think maybe I expected way too much from way too little...wrong tool for the job!- probably common with 1st time e-drummers.I was so blown away by the incredible sound of the DTXIIS through headphones, I realy couldn't stand to listen through the amp. I waited a while to allow time to adjust before making my decision to bail on the MS50DR. Since then, I have discovered some suppliers are not selling the unit anymore, and,in fact, it's not showing up on the Yamaha website...HHHHmmmmmm! As for other choices, it's great to hear success stories with other amps (esp. at lower prices), but I do have a small reason for opting to the rack mounted satellite/seperate woofer systems as opposed to the larger single amps... STEREO! Since I'm not gigging mixing PA'ing etc., I think it's cool to have the stereo sounds separate right at the rack and emit from the satellite speakers on the same side of the kit where they are mounted, instead of all out of one speaker. The "separation" of the toms, snare and cymbals(heard mostly through the satellites) from the kick (mostly subwoofer-not completely but noticable) helps with definition even if it's mosty psychological. As a side note, I chose the Roland PM-3 as a replacement. Same setup but with 100watt DUAL woofer and 50watt satellites...MMMUUUUCH BETTER!!! Review to come. I slightly regret not giving the Yamaha MS100DR a chance just to satisfy my curiosity on pure wattage alone, but another time-another member! Anyway, thanks for the concern and comments!

My only reservation about it (the same one I have for many of Roland's products) is the price tag, though it is available from time to time at a more reasonable cost. By the way, nothing about the PM- 3's published specs (including its modest increase in power) would lead anyone to believe that its sound quality, at any volume, would be worlds better than the Yamaha monitor. I was hoping that the MS50DR and its larger brother were Yamaha's price-conscious answer to it. Sadly, it appears not, and if Dan is right, Yamaha might be going back to the drawing board. Personally, I didn't think that Yamaha was capable of such a glaring error in an area that would seem to be such a slam dunk for them. Ed

I was able to get the PM-3 for the same $$ as the MS100DR and was leary of the Yamaha after the MS50 (probably should have tried the MS100DR). I kept wondering how They(Yamaha) could create such a great sounding kit and then let fly with such a subpar monitor. But let's remember here, this is one man's opinion- and an amateur at that! I am by no means an electrical or sound expert. I just thought my needs were about as minimal as they get, and just couldn't justify even $300 for something I couldn't stand to listen to. I wish now that I had tried the 100watter to allow Yamaha to redeem itself(only to me). I absolutely love the DTXtremeIIS and I'm only mildly disappointed about the monitor- not at all ready to bash Yamaha. Thanks, as always, for your insights! Dan

Dan, Gilligan didn't like it either, and you certainly had a better reaction to the PM-3. Frankly, I love Yamaha's products, and I sincerely appreciate how Dave Jewell, Jim Haler, Dave Ksycki, Martin Arroyo, and others have treated this group, but I hold out no special hope for the MS100, primarily because sound quality is not just a matter of increasing watts. Let's see what the market decides about the MS monitors. I think that we can be reasonably sure that members of this forum who have read what we've written will think twice about buying one of them--at least sight unseen (or its auditory equivalent). What we do here, even if modestly, is meant in part to ensure that people don't invest in products that fail to fulfill their promise. Extending the benefit of the doubt to products that do not get good reviews is difficult to do when much of what e-drummers buy comes from word of mouth or only sketchy experience in a store. Open minds with a dash of skepticism is prudent. And I invite any of Yamaha's staff who might peruse what we have to say from time to time to offer a dissenting view, or more information, about the monitors' sonic characteristics. Ed

The fact that Riks refuses to sell the MS50 (due to complaints), but continues to sell the MS100 (citing few to no complaints)may offer hope.....then there's always...HEADPHONES!!! That will be my choice 99% of the time, but I'm having a reunion of my old band members, and I just imagine having to pass the Hphones along so they can relish in these great sounding drums, ONE AT A TIME, while the others are subjected to the "dead frisbee" melodies! I trust your members will take these reviews as intended-food for thought, and that Yamaha will "listen" enough to gain insight into what we nutball drummers feel we need. and for that, your forum is ..."priceless" Dan

It sounds pretty good, although the toms seem a little resonant, although that may be my computer speakers. The kits sound better "out of the box" than the DTXpress III. For some reason Yamaha decided to put loads of wacky kits on the III, most of which have no practical use whatsoever. The sounds are there, but you have to make your own kits up from scratch. Keith.
