Dan,

Gilligan didn't like it either, and you certainly had a better
reaction to the PM-3. Frankly, I love Yamaha's products, and I
sincerely appreciate how Dave Jewell, Jim Haler, Dave Ksycki, Martin
Arroyo, and others have treated this group, but I hold out no special
hope for the MS100, primarily because sound quality is not just a
matter of increasing watts. Let's see what the market decides about
the MS monitors. I think that we can be reasonably sure that members
of this forum who have read what we've written will think twice about
buying one of them--at least sight unseen (or its auditory
equivalent). What we do here, even if modestly, is meant in part to
ensure that people don't invest in products that fail to fulfill
their promise. Extending the benefit of the doubt to products that do
not get good reviews is difficult to do when much of what e-drummers
buy comes from word of mouth or only sketchy experience in a store.
Open minds with a dash of skepticism is prudent. And I invite any of
Yamaha's staff who might peruse what we have to say from time to time
to offer a dissenting view, or more information, about the monitors'
sonic characteristics.
