With an acoustic (metal) cymbal, you can grab the cymbal after 
hitting it to "choke off" the sound. Some e-cymbals also allow you 
to do this, by having a switch around the rim of the cymbal. When 
you grab the rim, the switch closes and the module chokes off the 
sound.
