Yamaha DTXPress

2004-07-26 by okmedic4@yahoo.com

Hi,

I am considering purchasing a Yamaha DTXPress module. My sole
purpose for buying this module is to use it as a trigger system for
my acoustic set. Is this possible? I read one review that stated
that conventional drum triggers (like ddrum, or roland) could not be
used with this module? Is this true? If so, how many triggers can
be hooked up to it?

Thanks a lot!

You can use the DTXpress module to trigger acoustic drums. In fact,
the module has settings expressly for doing so--geared toward
Yamaha's own DT10/20 triggers. I had heard that the ddrum triggers
might not work well, but members have reported otherwise, except for
triggering kick drums. Apparently, finding a balance between double
triggers and dropouts on a large head with ddrums through the DTXPU
is problematical. Somebody with DIY skills and patience might be able
to accomplish it if willing to find a convenient way to muffle the
trigger. I'd say that using Yamaha's triggers would be the safest
best. The module has ten inputs.

By the way, where did you read that review?
