TP65S Edge Switch Problems

TP65S Edge Switch Problems

2004-12-01 by bparker0701

I'm having a problem with my snare (TP65S). When I hit any side
(edge), I only get one sound (1st edge I believe). Only every once
and a while will I get the 2nd edge sound.

I've taken the trigger apart. I'm an electronics engineer, so I
have a lot of experience in this area. It's not a complicated
device what so ever. It looks like everything is in good shape, I
see no wear. The only soldering is on the piezo itself and where
the components (resistors and jack) are soldered to the small PCB.
The edges really just look like switches made with serperated,
conductive traces on a plastic base. It might be a somewhat
resistive conductive trace to provide a resistive curve based on the
intensity of the strike. Could they be somewhat stuck together on
the 2nd endge?

Is it just worn after more than a year of playing? The snare takes
the most abuse, but not the edges by any means. Could it be some
stupid setting that I mistakenly changed in the brain? I haven't
tried resetting the brain to default and reloading my kits (via MIDI
of course).

If you put a multimeter between the connector ring and the screen you
will see 10k ohms if you squeeze one part of the rim and a few ohms if
you squeeze the other, infinity with neither pressed. Don't know that
this will help you find the problem.
